I was looking forward to this book from online previews but they can't do it justice. It's a hefty book with one of the best covers I've seen in a long time. And you CAN judge this one by its cover. It maps out the African continent from a surfer's perspective but also shows the promise of the place, often so lacking in media coverage. A sense of promise comes with this book, and the people featured love Africa and its traditions and are optimistic for its future. The photographs and the graphic design are excellent. I'd highly recommend this to all fans of surfing photography but would go further and recommend it to anyone with an eye for beauty and adventure. The stories are captivating and the alternative history, which corrects the pre-existing narrative, is a fascinating one to explore.
